In a press conference on Feb 7, 2010 at the Chief Minister Office, Jagdeep Singh Deo who is the Datuk Keramat Assemblyman and also the lawyer representing the Chief Minister told press members that legal proceedings will be initiated against News Straits Times.

In an article dated February 3, 2010, NST has published on the front page an article title 'PKR ready to act on Guan Eng'. It was quoted that PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution has said that "DAP secretary-general and Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng will be referred to Pakatan Rakyats presidential council if the damning allegations levelled against him are proven to be true."

Saifuddin has issued a press statement that NAT has maliciously misquoted his statement. He said he called NST reporter Shuhada Elis to seek clarification. She admitted over the phone that the line was not written by her and it has been inserted by the editor of NST.
