'Cuepacs not consulted over RM1.5bil EPF loans'

Cuepacs has claimed that the government or the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) never consulted with its representatives over the move to provide loans totalling RM1.5 billion for housing for the poor who cannot get such a facility.

Its president, Omar Osman, said although the civil service union has representatives on the EPF board, they were never consulted.

Who are the NFC scandal whistleblowers?

With the stream of exposes by PKR on the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) not seeming to ebb, many are wondering about the party's source or sources of information.

NFC owners blame two disgruntled former employees, and have lassoed Perkasa president Ibrahim Ali's help in telling all and sundry that it is these "non-Malay" ex-employees who are out to do them in.

Other NGOs met by Malaysiakini at a recent dialogue between NGOs and NFC chief executive officer Wan Shahinur Izmir Salleh, believe it's a "beef cartel" which is out to 'sabotage' a genuine Malay business.

NUBE: Lagi laporan polis di Segamat

Dua laporan polis telah dibuat di Ibupejabat Polis Daerah Segamat dibuat pada jam 7 malam tadi oleh ahli Kesatuan Pekerja-Pekerja Bank (NUBE) Johor Utara berhubung pemecatan dua orang ahli NUBE oleh Maybank.

Mereka yang dipecat adalah Naib Presiden NUBE, Abdul Jamil Jalaludeen dan Bendahari Kehormat, Chen Ka Fatt kerana didakwa memegang sepanduk yang bertulis "Maybank robs poor workers" di hadapan bangunan Pertubuhan Bangsa-bangsa Bersatu (PBB) dan Pertubuhan Buruh Antarabangsa (ILO).

Oleh itu, ahli NUBE seluruh negara membuat laporan polis terhadap CEO Maybank Berhad bersama dua individu lain.

Feb 5, 2012: The people came out - 3,000-strong - that cloudy evening in a continuing effort to convince the government to realign the MRT line at Jln Sultan. Altogether 32 plots have been earmarked for acquisition in the very neighborhood which gave birth to Kuala Lumpur. Organised by the Petaling Street Community Arts Project, the event was more than a vigil; it was a cultural message made in solidarity among the various faiths and ethnic groups with dragon dance, calligraphy, kompang beats, street performances, poetry recital... you name it. Here are some highlights.

Another police report lodged by NUBE

This morning at about 10.30am, some 15 members from the National Union of Bank Employees headed by its Peninsula Malaysia President, Tan Eng Hong were at the Johor Bahru (South) police station to lodge a police report against Maybank and three of its senior executives.

NUBE alledged that Maybank has unlawfully dismissed two of its employees who are also exco member of the union and reiterated that the bank action was in gross violations of the prevailing Labour Act specifically under Section 39 and Section 59 of the Industrial Relation Act.

The union urged the police to investigate the case and to take necessary action against the offending parties.

Shahrizat's kin bought two more posh condos, says PKR

PKR strategy director Rafizi Ramli today revealed that the family of Shahrizat Abdul Jalil had purchased two more condos worth RM34.6 million at Marina Bay suites, located in the posh Marina Bay Financial Centre, Central Boulevard, Singapore.

He said they may have used the RM250 million soft loan from the National Feedlot Centre as leverage for the properties, purchased in 2010.

Rafizi said the condos, located on the eighth and 11th floor, are registered under the name of Shahrizat's husband Mohd Salleh Ismail and his son and NFC executive director Wan Shahinur Izran Salleh.

EPF housing loan 'comes with 2.67 times guarantee'

Although not all their questions have been answered, Pakatan Rakyat MPs are somewhat comforted by the Employee Provident Fund's (EPF) clarification on the RM1.5 billion home- loan plan.

"It will not be loaned directly to house buyers... it's given to the government and backed by a surety 2.67 times the value of the total loan amount given by EPF," Petaling Jaya DAP MP Tony Pua said today.

"We were also made to understand that it's not up to RM1.5 billion as announced by Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing minister... for the time being EPF is only lending RM300 million.”

The minister, Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin, had said last week that the money would be used as an "easy financing scheme" for 20,000 eligible Public Housing Project (PPR) tenants and potential buyers who cannot obtain bank loans.

Rafizi: NFC doomed from the start

Politics aside, can the National Feedlot Corporation (NFC) turn things around to make it work? Probably not, said PKR chief of strategy Rafizi Ramli.

Interviewed by Malaysiakini last week, Rafizi, who is a chartered accountant said that the bare economics of the project suggest that the project was "doomed from the very beginning".

Already facing a lawsuit by cabinet minister Shahrizat Jalil, whose family owns NFC, Rafizi even went as far as suggesting that the family knew that it was never going to succeed, but used it for "seed money" for other businesses.

"I get the feeling that the National Feedlot Centre operation in Gemas...is just a disguise. The rest is about the more glamourous part of the business; property investments, upmarket food and beverage business.
